How Our Dogs Work

detailing and localizing bed bug infestation

Our dogs are single purpose detectors — they only locate the odor of live bed bugs or viable eggs, and they are trained to perform a "final response behavior" (akin to a hunting dog's pointing) when they have identified the strongest source of the target odor.

We use our dogs as one tool in an inclusive program of bed bug control. They are the quickest and most efficient technique available to identify potential areas of infestation, because the dogs use their wonderful sense of smell! This effectively complements the strengths of the human technicians, who must relying on their eyes and clues to determine the presence of bed bugs.

Please consult the FAQs for more specific details on how the dogs detect bed bugs — it's quite fascinating. Also, the PREPARATION SHEET (download here) includes many details about what we will be doing.

Why K-9 Detection?

For facilities that want to assure clients and residents that they are bed bug free, our dogs can do a top-to-bottom scan, identifying potential problem areas for further investigation, quicker and more accurately than any other measure. We can back up our K-9 Detectives with visual and chemical inspection, so you can be assured that your detection results are reliable.

Many organizations strive for a zero tolerance policy with bed bugs. While it may be impossible to prove a negative the canines are one of the most efficient tools used to clear areas. They can be very effective at addressing areas of concern to residents or patrons. Including a routine canine inspection is a small investment of time yet can be used to identify potential infestations before they spread throughout the facility.
